Graduation Hat Drawing and Coloring Pages

Hello, and get ready for a celebratory twist on our hat drawing series: Graduation hat drawing! This article will also feature FREE graduation coloring pages: Printable sheets that make a delightful activity (cards, and signs) for all ages.

As background, my name is Ms. Marshall, and I’m an artist and teacher who revels in providing fun and easy drawing ideas far and wide. Each and every illustration on this site is hand-drawn by me with love.

Graduation Art

So what makes graduation art satisfying? Well, the main element is drawing the graduation cap, and I’ll give a tutorial for that subsequently (as I did for our chef hat drawing) as well as provide free downloadable coloring sheets, but first let me mention two other important elements.

Graduation Hat Drawing

Now let’s zoom in and assess how to draw a graduation hat, exactly. Unfortunately, I find these caps to be one of the most challenging to draw because of its straight lines — even more so than the lines of our top hat drawing!

The basic idea of a graduation cap drawing is that there is a square top that is shown sideways, then a tassel up top, and a beanie at the bottom. Given this, I urge the same advice as our jester hat drawing: Start with pencil first so you get the curves and angles right before adding pen and ink.

Graduation Colors

Now here’s the tricky part: Though graduations are generally very festive affairs, the grad caps themselves are usually dark and somber in color. To balance this out, let’s use midnight purple instead of black to spice things up!
